Rewarding good choices
Firstly, using a Marker word - “YES” We want your dog to learn that the word ‘Yes’ means there is a treat on the way so they will repeat the behaviour you want.
If a behaviour is rewarded, it will be repeated.
Saying ‘Yes’ helps you tell them that a specific moment is what you were looking for and it gives you a little extra time to reach for the treat, and so ‘yes’ and a treat are paired.
Exercise: Say their name, when they look at you, say “yes” and reward them.
Do a few 30 seconds sessions of this over the next few days so they solidly learns what it means.

Then you can begin to reward good choices. eg, being calm around new people/keeping all four paws on the ground when excited.
